Derek A. Smith is the Director of Cyber Security Initiatives, National Cyber Security Institute for Excelsior College responsible to perform complex duties relating to the development and coordination of cyber security initiatives at NCI. I develop strategies to promote the NCI as an academic and research center dedicated to increasing knowledge in the cyber security discipline and to assist the government, military, and industry sectors meet the challenges in cyber security policy, technology and education. I work to promote Excelsior College and NCI as a leader in the cyber security discipline and to enhance the visibility of Excelsior College’s cyber security programs.   Derek is the former Director of Cyber Initiatives at Enlightened, Inc. responsible for strategic and operational leadership that established, supported, and continuously improved cyber information strategies.   I was a Principal Consultant/Global Coordinator for Cyber Education at Computer Sciences Corporation, a Cyber Security Architect and Project Manager. I was the IT Security Program Manager for the Enterprise Information Security division at Booz Allen Hamilton. Also at BAH was the IT security manager for the Treasury Network PMO.   Previously at Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration (OASD/NII) Computer Network Defense-wide Information Assurance Program (DIAP) policy and doctrine analyst in support of global CNDSP operations.   I was a government Information Assurance Manager for Computer Network Defense at the Army research Lab. Formerly IT Security Engineer at TSA and at Coast Guard.   I was a United States Federal agent for 18 years. Department of Treasury, U.S Postal Service, Department of Education, Army CID, and Air Force Office of Special Investigations. I served in the Navy for 2 years, Air Force for 15 years and Army National Guard for 8 years. Worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency as a Physical Security Specialist. Acted as Deputy Chief of the Protective Services Division.   As for education I have a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership (ABD), an MBA, MSIT IA, Master in IT Project Management, B.S in Education, and A.S degrees in Computing and Information Technology, Data Processing, and Criminal Justice.
